haitiThroughout this week come to Haiti a naval convoy of six vessels chartered from Mexico by the Caritas network to the island to transport 15,000 tons of humanitarian aid, mainly food, water and medical supplies. The “Papanlapou” first of the ships has arrived in Port au Prince, carried in their holds 2,000 tons of rice, beans, lots of pasteurized milk and medical devices.

All this aid will be distributed immediately among the victims being served by the Caritas network in the plan of emergency response worth 31 million euros at the point by Caritas Haiti to assist 200,000 people for two months.

The assistance provided to victims by Caritas also includes materials for shelter and tents, as well as psychosocial support and emergency surgical care. This week will be deployed in Haiti, through Caritas American, a team from the University of Maryland specializes in medical treatment to victims of disasters and whose members shall be renewed every week under a program for action in the field of six months duration. Among the 20 tons of medical supplies include medicine, medical equipment, medical devices and equipment for camping, the ministry said in a statement.
