Caritas Chartered Six Ships Of 15,000 Tons Of Aid To Haiti

haitiThroughout this week come to Haiti a naval convoy of six vessels chartered from Mexico by the Caritas network to the island to transport 15,000 tons of humanitarian aid, mainly food, water and medical supplies. The “Papanlapou” first of the ships has arrived in Port au Prince, carried in their holds 2,000 tons of rice, beans, lots of pasteurized milk and medical devices.

All this aid will be distributed immediately among the victims being served by the Caritas network in the plan of emergency response worth 31 million euros at the point by Caritas Haiti to assist 200,000 people for two months.

The assistance provided to victims by Caritas also includes materials for shelter and tents, as well as psychosocial support and emergency surgical care. This week will be deployed in Haiti, through Caritas American, a team from the University of Maryland specializes in medical treatment to victims of disasters and whose members shall be renewed every week under a program for action in the field of six months duration. The top priority of this team will be undertake in the coming days, the 16 cases surgical intervention particularly sensitive.

Medical Supplies For Haiti

NAMA GAMBARIt is almost a month since Haiti trembled for the first time since that fateful Tuesday, there have been many moments of panic revived by the population that has managed to survive each of the aftershocks that have followed. The horror begins Haiti is living unless notice has become entrenched in our media giving this situation normal character. But nothing is normal in Haiti, although it everyday, even before the earthquake, and Cooperative Assembly for Peace (ACPP) has always been aware of it. Since 1995 ACPP began work in Haiti, his strategy has always been the same: To work for the country to have a strong and democratic society where people’s social rights are respected and upheld at all costs and in which basic needs are covered universally. This has never been easier and much less in Haiti, a country plagued by misfortune, with high rates of indebtedness, corruption and a serious environmental problem, which has become the poorest country of America and one of the world’s most vulnerable. Chinese Medical Equipment and Supplies to Haiti

medical equipmentA team of medical and epidemic prevention in China consists of 40 people left this afternoon en route to Haiti aboard a chartered flight, which also carries 20 tons of medical supplies, said Chinese Commerce Ministry.

The Ministry of Commerce of China announced today that the country will offer medical supplies worth 18 million yuan (2.64 billion dollars) in additional assistance to Haiti, which was severely affected by an earthquake on 12 January.

Among the 20 tons of medical supplies include medicine, medical equipment, medical devices and equipment for camping, the ministry said in a statement.

Aboard the plane was also carrying four police officers for peacekeeping Chinese, which will replace the four who died in the earthquake. China has deployed a force of peacekeepers from 125 members in the Caribbean country. (more…)
