Spanish Military Physicians in Afganhistan Have served More Than 300 Patients in The Last Month
Spanish doctors Role of the Military Hospital 2 of the Forward Support Base (FSB) in Herat (Afghanistan) have treated over 300 patients, most Afghans, since it was inaugurated on the 29th hospital January by Defense Minister Jose Antonio Alonso, on his last visit to Afghanistan.
Since opening, the Role 2 has been intense and varied activity, confirmed by the many visits he has been subjected. The hospital has modern facilities, transport, among which an intensive care unit, two operating rooms, hospital services and primary care, clinical analysis, radiology, dentistry, psychology, veterinary medicine and pharmacy. It also has air medical evacuation capacity and conservation of blood.
Role The primary function of 2 as medical support to ISAF forces, has increased assistance to military personnel and Afghan police and the provision of humanitarian assistance through local personal medical consultation. The figures speak for themselves: they have attended a total of 306 patients, of whom 286 have been Afghans. With a medical team comprising 20 men and 11 women, Role surgical module 2 is in turn composed of 10 doctors Bulgarian Army, with its remarkable experience in this type of mission, has made a total of eight operations.
Also, within this effort to reach the Afghan people, have held several meetings with health authorities in the Herat region to enhance cooperation and relations with international forces Regional Command West (RC-W) of ISAF . In this vein, it has coordinated health care among the various institutions to optimize, following the Spanish example, the quality of medical service.
On the other hand, have also established agreements on new protocols for action between Spanish and Afghan doctors to improve care for the wounded, both military and civilian, in this region of Afghanistan.
One of the leading experts and are appreciated in the same hospital air medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), essential in an air force unit of the characteristics and tasks of the FSB. Such actions are coordinated in conjunction with the Helicopter Unit that the Air Force has highlighted in Herat for the purpose. So far there have been four air medical evacuations, with 11 people transported, and all have been a success.
Currently the Spanish Hospital is under the command of Lt. Col. Luis Cardona Medical Corps Cean, who has recently taken as a result of the arrival of the seventh over from Afghanistan.
