Here in this post some tips for preventing the “diabetic foot” and its consequences:
* It is recommended every night to take a foot bath with warm water, not too hot or cold. Then, dry it gently with a soft, absorbent towel, being careful not to be moisture between the toes.
* After bathing, apply one to three times a week a lanolin based cream to keep skin soft and hydrated.
* Always cut your nail with a sharp tip while irregular, and never shorter than the tip of your finger. Be particularly careful not to hurt. Do not cut cuticles.
If the patient has or has trouble shaking hands reach your fingers, you better ask a trusted third party to cut the nails carefully. But also may turn to a podiatrist.
* Attention also calluses and corns, if any, should be treated by professionals who take into account the appropriate conditions of antisepsis.
* Avoid using drugs at the foot of irritants such as iodine tincture or other commercial preparations for calluses.
* Apply talc, in feet and footwear, at least once a week.
* Footwear that is used should be comfortable and appropriate, that hold the foot but sufficiently large and soft material to prevent chafing. The cotton socks are best, seamless and tight.
* Avoid walking barefoot, as it can be dangerous by causing small wounds or cuts.
* Do not apply on the feet of direct hot water bottles. Better be a good pair of cotton or wool socks to warm their feet.
* Once a year a review be sensitive, vascular and orthopedic to assess the risk of injury.

If any of these symptoms, seek medical advice quickly:
* If you notice a mole on foot to change color or size.
* If you experience pain in any area requiring lower limb to stop the march, or even to appear during sleep and obstruct the rest.
* Cramps or tingling (especially at night).
* Edema or changes in skin color without justifiable reasons.
